NATIONS RANKING: DAVIS CUP MOVERS AND SHAKERS
American Medical Center’s, Dr. Luan Nguyen, along with other members of the Guam tennis team.
Guam has entered the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas rankings for the first time after the Pacific Islanders enjoyed a successful debut in the Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV event in Oman.
Having recently become a Class B member nation of the International Tennis Federation, Guam was able to compete on its own for the first time. While inexperienced as a nation, it was able to rely on the vast experience of Daniel Llarenas, who had played 21 ties for Pacific Oceania in his career.
Guam entered Asia/Oceania Zone Group IV in Oman and had an excellent week, winning three of its five round robin ties and reaching the promotional play-offs. In the play-off, Guam took on hosts Oman, but two three-set defeats in the singles rubbers meant it would stay in Zone Group IV for 2019. However, it comes into the rankings at No. 118.
